Dear Ms. Lewandowski:

Thank you for our wonderful experience and dinner this evening!  Everything was top notch!

My wife, a Kits resident for the past decade, got a groupon for your restaurant.  She had always wanted to go to the Gramercy.  So, you have a new customer!

I am a 25 year San Francisco foodie, recently transplanted to Kits.  When trying new restaurants, I find it easier to go in with low expectations.  So frankly, I was floored by the food quality, preparation and level of service!  In a very favorable way, it reminded me of home.  Your restaurant could compete in any market!  In  the Vancouver market, Gramercy stands out like a shining diamond in a field of horse feathers...hmmm, maybe mixing metaphors here.

In short, just wanted you to know that your restaurant and your staff earned your way to the top of our list of places to return to and explore the menu!

Well done!

Best regards,

Bruce Lyons

Missing from our list of Dine Out recommendations was Gramercy Grill (604-730-5666), an oversight if ever there was one. Last week we turned a blind eye to their Health Smart lunch menu (two courses for $16) in favour of a plate of the plumpest Salt Spring Island mussels we've seen yet, swimming in a delicious white wine and tomato broth, with chunks of chorizo to spice things up. All that, and superb fries with aioli, too!

The Dine Out menu (three courses for $28) is as extensive as any around, with thoughtful and fairly priced wines by the glass, also offered by the bottle at 10 per cent off Sundays to Thursdays during Dine Out.

Hi – just a short note to tell you what a lovely experience we had on Tues, Feb 23rd at your restaurant.

My friend (a Vancouver resident) and I ( a visitor to Vancouver) arrived to enjoy some wine and food, only to find that it was time for the Half-Price Appetizer part of your service, and after thoroughly enjoying Bacon/Bean Soup, Mushroom Tart and Beef Carpaccio, we went on to enjoy Crème Brulee and Lemon Tart, all of which were delicious! The Orange Muscat Dessert Wine added to the experience.

The wine selection was great, the food was excellent, the ambiance cozy and relaxing and the service was very personal and personable.

Thanks to Trevor and Susan who took such good care of us.

My friend had been to your restaurant before, and after this enjoyable evening, she and I will certainly be back.

Best wishes for continued success.

Sincerely,

Heather Riddel

GRAMERCY GRILL – A Neighbourhood Bistro of Uncompromised Flavours

by Dianne Chow

,
I’m no stranger to most of the restaurants that I blog, but having a social calendar that keeps me so busy that it may take months or years to return to the same restaurant, it’s always a pleasant surprise that when I do return to a restaurant that the same level of quality of food and service that I’ve come to know and love hasn’t been compromised since my last visit.

Returning to dine at the GRAMERCY GRILL is like returning to an old friend and picking up the conversation as though I’ve never left.  Dennis Huang, who has been the Chef at Gramercy Grill since 2006 and has worked at Lola’s, Raintree and the Mustache’ Cafe before owning his own restaurant, Ordinary Cafe is such a chef whose culinary skills remains uncompromised.

I ordered Seared Duck Breast Medallions, with butternut squash croquette in a pomegranate reduction and cabernet jus (picture above).  The lamb was exquisitively tender with the skin cooked to a nice crunchy crisp and the reduction adding an interesting contrast of sweetness while the cabernet jus offset the gaminess of the duck.  I’ve had Duck L’Orange and I’d have to say the pomegranate reduction adds more depth of flavour than the tangy citrus flavour of oranges.
.

My friend ordered Veal Scallopini with mixed wild mushroom demi & lemon parsley potatoes.  Veal is usually sliced thin which makes it easy to overcook, but in this instance, it was  very tender and the flour coating for the batter was light.  No one had to tell us to eat all the vegetables off our plate before we could order dessert as the vegetables which accompanied our entrees were served la dente, to retain the freshness with that perfect degree of crispyness.
.

I’d have to say that the only thing that was wrong with this lemon tart was that the fact that I shared it.  Unlike other lemon tarts, the crust is not made out of shortbread but was a light, flaky crust which gives the lemon curd the chance to be the star in this dessert.  The blueberry brulee crust and coulis was what I thought, pushed this lemon tart to the outstanding category for me.  This dessert alone is enough of an excuse for me just to return to GRAMERCY GRILL.
